The DSC seeks candidates for the following open position at OpenCUNY:

  • Coordinator for Organizing and Action

In 2008, the OpenCUNY Academic Medium was formed to provide student organized, open-source social media for the Graduate Center community. In effect, the Coordinator for Organizing & Action helps students to organize, collaborate, and to amplify their messages using OpenCUNY. As examples, the outgoing Coordinator for Organizing & Action created a website community for the DSC chartered orgs ( and worked with the DSC Officer for Student Life and Services to find the best plugins to support the goals of the site, specifically plugins that would allow easy submission of housing posts ( The Coordinator also consulted with students groups about using OpenCUNY for designing innovative conference programs that are mobile friendly, and other groups about using OpenCUNY for hosting a student-run journal.

Ideal candidates are outgoing, creative, skilled with WordPress, and interested in issues of open-access, open-source, and digital privacy. The successful applicant will join Laurie Hurson (Coordinator for Planning & Development) and Paul Hebert (Coordinator for Education & Support) in being  responsible for regularly communicating and sharing in decision-making processes; performing routine maintenance on the digital medium, including theme and plugin updates, bug checks and troubleshooting administering participants’ accounts and requests ensuring the reliability of the medium; facilitating and advocating  for the adoption of open standards, and ensuring that all activities of OpenCUNY are in compliance with the OpenCUNY Terms of Participation and DSC Constitution and Bylaws.

The ideal candidate would also have some or all of the following qualifications:

The new coordinator will start on or around July 1, 2017, and receive a stipend of approximately $6,900 annually, paid in equal monthly installments of $581.88 from July through June.
